norma kamali
Norma Kamali

With her rah-rah sweats of The 1980s, Kamali transformed the locker room to the pinnacle of fashion. Her sleeping bag coat and clothes made from parachutes inspired knockoffs all over the world. Result: Three Coty awards and enough CFDA awards to secure her plaque on the Fashion Walk of Fame. New technology is Kamali’s current fascination, evidenced by The Norma Kamali I-phone app, plus the use of new scan life technology that allows customer to shop from her flagship store’s window or throughout the store by scanning 2d barcodes. Kamali is also the first designer to create a virtual online store on eBay. In 2008, she designed a collection for Walmart, the majority priced at $20 and under. For the last 18 years, Kamali has worked with New York City public school students to bring art together with commerce and establish job opportunities.
