Parsons The New School for Design and the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) are each partnering with The Fashion Center by providing student talent to the exhibition. Two student teams, one from each school, will design their own Sidewalk Catwalk mannequins. The student teams were selected by the Event Committee. Student apprentices will also work with participating designers.
Joanne Arbuckle, Dean of the School of Art and Design at FIT, emphasized her support of the project by stating: "We are extremely pleased that FIT students were given the opportunity to design and exhibit a mannequin alongside so many notable fashion designers. What better way to recognize tomorrow's creative leaders than by including them among today's, a number of whom themselves are FIT alumni – Victor Alfaro, John Bartlett, Stephen Burrows, Norma Kamali, Michael Kors, Nanette Lepore, Rebecca Moses, and Isabel Toledo. SIDEWALK CATWALK is an exciting way to highlight New York as the Creative Capitol of the World, and we applaud The Fashion Center for spearheading such a creative project."
